Dispensary of Hope
A National Health Care Crisis
Nearly 47 million Americans are uninsured - with 16 million struggling to manage serious chronic diseases like diabetes or high blood pressure. Most work at least part time, but as fewer companies offer health insurance, and healthcare costs are rising, over 105 million Americans have incomes less than 200% of the poverty level and are faced with impossible choices.
Medical Waste
Every year, up to 40% of all distributed medicines and 20% of sample medicines given to physician practices go unused. At the same time, over $6 billion of medicine expires and is destroyed before it can be put in the hands of the individuals who need it. This translates into billions of dollars worth in medicine that can be provided to the uninsured - just by being better stewards of our resources.
How it Works
The Dispensary of Hope has developed an efficient system to handle the high volume of prescription drugs it dispenses each year. Physicians’ offices, distributors, and manufacturers send their donated medications to the program’s distribution center, which receives prescription requests from the dispensing partners and forwards the medications as needed. The centralized inventory system includes a secure web-based program for processing orders, managing inventory, and capturing patient information.
